In Yoruba mythology, Oshun is an Orisha, a supernatural being from different African religions. She is seen as a goddess of love, maternity and marriage. The other Orishas took away her children because she was not married. Oshun was full of grief and wore the same dress every day until it turned yellow. The day she decided to wash her dress, she met another Orisha called Aje'-Shaluga, whom she fell in love with. He collected money and gems from the bottom of the river he lived in, so she could take care of her children again. This story is an example of true love and unconditional love for children. She is associated with the colour yellow and the metals gold and copper. Although she suffered many misfortunes and sometimes feels sad, Oshun is seen as lively, sparkling and vivacious.
